What I know and Why I am Here:
While I have completed several trainings through Microsoft and other
educational platform, I don’t believe that it provides the equivalency of a
formal education that allows me to obtain the skills to formally present, suggest
and more importantly create instructional designs to implement in
our classrooms.
My professional goals are to become educated in such a way that I can
share with my colleagues and create change in our district. As a teacher who uses
Microsoft products like OneNote and Teams, it’s very discouraging to hear
people choosing platforms based on ease of use without consideration of the
bigger and long-term picture.
Two important issues in that I find in the specialization area are:
- Creating sustainable designs that can transition with our evolving classrooms; and
- Managing emerging technologies- there’s so much technology around us and everyone is trying the next new thing without thoroughly gaining understanding of one specific platform. I believe that we should have a collective understanding of how these platforms are best serving our students- are they accessible for different learning capabilities, are they available offline? Simply taking into consideration if the platforms will transition as they are progressing academically making the overall investment worthwhile.
